Complete and clear oval handstamp on large part of 1838 folded cover (missing interior page, side flap, and piece of bottom flap), to Havre, France, red Calcutta Steam Letter Nov. ?, 1838 boxed despatch datestamp with manuscript "1-7as" rate (1r7a) on back, sender's directive "(via) Bombay & Marseille", red boxed "INDIA", "Indes Orien par Alexandrie", "Purifie au Lazaret, Malte", and red "Paquebots de la Mediterranee" handstamps, Alexandria Dec. 27 and Paris Jan. 18 (1839) transit and Havre Jan. 19 (1839) arrival datestamps, rated "21", cover with disinfection slits and small toned spot at left VERY FINE AND SCARCE STRIKE OF THIS THOMAS WAGHORN HANDSTAMP—SMITH RECORDS 44 EXAMPLES. Smith records uses between Jul. 22, 1837 and Jan. 9, 1841.
