About Waghorn Sidebottom 10

Sidebottom 10 has one of the widest date ranges in the Waghorn series, recorded on covers from 1836 to 1842, with an earliest strike in September 1836. It therefore spans the agency from its pioneering beginnings through to its peak — an unusually long working life for a single forwarding-agent mark.

Listed in black as both Sidebottom 10 and Smith 10, it rounds out the run of catalogue originals before the numbers move into marks recorded by Smith alone. The breadth of its recorded use makes it a valuable reference point: covers bearing it bracket almost the whole of Waghorn's most active period on the overland route.
