Description

1826 Hyderabad pre stamp cover Post paid 1826 markings to Madras. The inland postage rate to madras would have been 6a, but has not been marked on the letter (perhaps privately carried to the port). The letter was stamped “Outstation Ship Letter/madras/date” which mark was applied to all upcountry letters sent by sea through the port of Madras. On arrival in Britain the “India letter deal” (type3) mark was added and a charge of 1/7 was made, being 4d sea rate and 1/3d inland postage. Scarce exhibition cover showcasing early outgoing mail from Hyderabad during pre-stamp period.
