Description

Entire letter posted from Madras to the Nizam's Detachment Camp on 29th August 1815, prepaid 1 Rupee 3 Fanams 8 Cash for a letter comprising eight sheets. It bears the Fort St. George Post Paid handstamp (HG-4) in black with the date slugs “Aug” and “29” inserted separately.** The manuscript endorsement “To Kurnoor” indicates that the Nizam's Detachment Camp was stationed there at the time. The postage represents the double rate, as the letter was unusually heavy.
