Malta: Disinfected Mail: 1839 (Feb. 17) entire letter “per Steamer via Bombay & Suez” and “via Marseilles” to Bordeaux datelined at Calcutta with framed “STEAM POSTAGE ‘1-8/INLAND Do ‘1-14’/TOTAL ‘3-8’” double ring 24mm “PURIFIE AU LAZARET/MALTE” and a Bordeaux arrival c.d.s. on the reverse. Obverse with oval “Care of/Mr Waghorn/Suez”, “INDES/ALEXANDRIE” c.d.s, framed “INDIA” in red and framed “PAQUEBOTS/DE LA/MEDITERRANEE” mark in red and rated a total of “48” décimes due, very fine.
