India, Used in Damaun, 1854, 1a Deep Red, Die II (4B; SG 13). Large margins to clear, small nick in bottom left margin, tied by barred "13" diamond cancel and light strike of violet "DAMAUN/Paid" boxed handstamp (Giles 1, date unclear) on back of folded letter to Surat, faintly struck framed arrival datestamp VERY FINE AND RARE USE OF THE 1854 ONE-ANNA FROM DIE II ON COVER USED IN DAMAUN—AN OFFICE IN THE PORTUGUESE INDIA TERRITORY. Damaun was the only British post office in the Portuguese territories within India. Covers from Damaun are rarely encountered.
