Description
India, Used in Damaun, 1854, 1a Dull Red, Die II (4B; SG 14). Large to full margins, tied by "13" diamond grid cancel with violet "DAMAUN/PAID" boxed datestamp (Giles 1) with manuscript "9-8-56" date on native cover VERY FINE. A DESIRABLE AND EXCEPTIONAL USE OF THE 1854 ONE-ANNA FROM DIE II USED ON NATIVE COVER FROM DAMAUN -- AN OFFICE IN THE PORTUGUESE INDIA TERRITORY. Damaun was the only British post office that was set up within the Portuguese territories of India and was given the "13" numeral cancel. Ex Dr. Kornan and "Magnolia".
