About this mark

The Bood Bood HG 1 handstamp

Budbud (the Bood Bood of early records) is a town in Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal, on the Grand Trunk Road west of Bardhaman in the Damodar valley coalfield borderland. It was a stage on the great trunk route across western Bengal. As a post town of the Bengal Presidency its pre-1854 markings trace the mail of the Bardhaman road.

Bood Bood HG 1 is a pre-1854 handstruck postal marking of the post office at Bood Bood — the present-day Bud Bud — in the Bengal Presidency, British India, recorded in use —. Its "HG 1" designation is the figure number assigned in the Hammond Giles catalogue of the handstruck postage stamps of India.

A single surviving cover bearing this mark is recorded in the census, with images and provenance. On the strength of that count the mark is graded "Rare" — the grade moves automatically as new covers are recorded. Collectors searching for bood bood pre stamp covers, bood bood postal history or "Bood Bood HG1" material can compare HG 1 across every office or browse the rest of the Bood Bood marks.
