Pathankot (recorded as Pathankote) is a city in the Punjab of India where the plains meet the roads into the Kangra hills and Jammu, long a strategic gateway of the north. It lay at the junction of routes toward the western Himalaya. Following the annexation of the Punjab it became a post town, and its early markings record the Company's mail at the foot of the hills.
