Kussowlee's seven handstamps, from 1844 to 1857, come from a Himalayan hill station and cantonment more than six thousand feet up in the Punjab hills. The office worked almost entirely in red — six of its seven marks — with a single black strike, HG 6, known from one example. There is no great rarity in the run beyond that lone black mark; it is the steady red output of a small hill post. But its setting gives it character: the correspondence of a cool-season cantonment above the plains, its marks a modest record of hill-station life in the years before 1857.
