Description

AFGHANISTAN - First Anglo-Afghan War, 1842 Framed "L.P.O." Handstamp (Giles 9). Clear strike on back of folded letter with manuscript "Jallalabad 21st January 1842" origin docketing and addressed to Madras, India, Captain Orr correspondence, Loodiana Bearing handstamp (Giles 4) with manuscript "6as" with "1R" overwritten, framed "AM" handstamp and red Calcutta transit datestamp, cover with some reinforcement along folds, some edge wear, otherwise Fine and quite scarce, the "L.P.O." marking was applied in Loodiana and was used for the exchange of mail from military to civilian postal services
