India, Kussowlee, 1844, "KUSSOWLEE/FREE" Oval Handstamp (Giles unrecorded). Clear strike in red with manuscript "16 Febr" date added on back of folded soldier's letter datelined Kussowlee Feb. 12, 1844, addressed to London, England, endorsed "From No. 15 83 Pte Sam Clunie H.M. 9th Regt of foot" and countersigned by commanding officer, red "INDIA" oval handstamp, transit and arrival datestamps, "2" rate handstamp, Very Fine, presumably a very scarce marking as it was unknown to Giles
