Kussowlee: 1852 (23 July) soldier's envelope (complete with letter) "From No 1513 P. Jas Cuddie H M 1st Regt" to Scotland showing framed "INDIA", handstruck "2" and, on reverse, a good strike of the oval-framed "KUSSOWLEE/Service" datestamp (HG 2) in red alongside Calcutta G.P.O. Ship Letter datestamp; the contents regarding a soldier claiming the privilege of protection of the Mutiny Act, 1851, to avoid being summoned for not supporting his wife while in the Army. Photo.
