AFGHANISTAN - First Anglo-Afghan War, 1843 Soldier's Letter to London. Folded letter datelined "Camp Ferazeepore, Jan. 4th, 1843" and addressed to London, England, manuscript "From No. 1583 Pte. Saml Clunie ? 9th Reg." endorsement and countersigned at bottom left, red "Ferozepore FREE" oval despatch handstamp (Giles unrecorded), red "INDIA" oval handstamp, London (Mar. 18) arrival backstamp, "2" rate handstamp, exceptional contents with detailed accounts of his battles including "...we found the enemy had mustered in great numbers under the shade of a beautiful grove of trees. They opened a sharp fire upon us and we advanced but without doing much harm...we received order to fix our bayonets and charge them...we rushed on as fast as our legs could carry us..." , cover with some slight soiling, otherwise Very Fine, ex Dietrich
