Dera Ismail Khan, formerly Dera Ismail Khan, is a city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, on the right bank of the Indus commanding the routes to the Gomal Pass and Afghanistan. Long a caravan and frontier trade centre of the Derajat, it became a district town under British administration. Its early postal markings record the first British mail across the southern trans-Indus border after the annexation of the Punjab.
