Bannu (recorded as Bunnoo) is a city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, founded as a British frontier cantonment in the fertile Bannu basin west of the Indus. It became a garrison and administrative centre guarding the Waziristan border. Established as a post town soon after the annexation of the Punjab, its early markings belong to the first British mail across the trans-Indus frontier.
