India, Muttra, 1823, "MUTTRA/Pt Pd" Octagonal Handstamp (Giles 1). Well-struck with manuscript " (18) 23 Oct 23" date and rate added on back of folded letter to Exeter, England, sender's directive "Per St Ship for London" , framed "INDIA LETTER/PLYMOUTH" handstamp (Robertson In. 1), two Calcutta transit datestamps, manuscript "1/6" rate marking, Very Fine, an early strike of this example which Giles records used from 1825-36
