Description
Siegel - India, Kamptee, 1825, "KAMPTEE/POST PAID" Handstamp (Giles 2). Exceptionally bold strike with manuscript "22d August 1825" date and "2(a)6(p)" rate added on back of large part folded cover (missing side flaps) to Redford, Scotland, lightly struck framed "INDIA LETTER/PORTSMOUTH" handstamp (Robertson In. 3) and framed "1/2" handstamp, Madras Out Station Ship Letter (Sept. 3), London, and Edinburgh transit datestamps, manuscript "2/4" rate marking rerated to "3/4", some minor tape stains to front panel, Very Fine strike Cavendish - KAMPTEE - PORTSMOUTH INDIA LETTERS PAIR WITH THE BOXED “POST PAID” MARKS IN BLACK OR RED; 22 Aug. 1825/12 June 1832 pair of Es (latter with side-flaps removed & both with slight stains) to GB with mainly very fine boxed “KAMPTEE/POST PAID” marks (HG2/HG3) in black (scarce; 1825 only) or claret-purple on the flaps beside large oval Madras “SHIP LETTER” d.s.’s, and each with a fair or fine boxed “INDIA LETTER/PORTSMOUTH” on the front.
