Description

INDIA, Kristnagerry, 1799, "POST PAID/KRISTNAGERRY" Handstamp (Giles 1). Mostly complete strike in oval with manuscript "6f, 18 april 99" rate and date markings on folded letter to Shrewsbury, England, sender's directive "By the first ship", faint London Ship Letter and partial London transit backstamp, rated "2/-" and a further "8", cover variously faulty with edgewear, splitting along folds, and large repaired tear in face panel, otherwise Fine strike, irrespective of the severe faults, this marking is very rare with only two examples recorded per Giles, both in 1799
