Description

India, Calcutta, 1853, "CALCUTTA/1853 JUL 6/WEIGHT TOLA/FREE" Oval Datestamp (Giles 29). Mostly clear strike on back of mourning cover to Hyderabad, sent free with " Dalhousie" signature at bottom left, red "HYDRABAD/1853 July ?/FREE" oval arrival backstamp (Giles 9), cover with some slight wear including minor bend by signature, still Very Fine and quite scarce free frank, James Andrew Broun-Ramsay (or Lord Dalhousie, 1812-60) was the Governor-General of India (1848-56) and an important figure in 19th century British India
