India, Cuddapah, 1823, "POST/KURPAH/PAID" Circular Handstamp (Giles 1). Bold though watery strike on back of folded letter datelined "Cuddapah, 15 August 1823", addressed to Hertford, England, forwarded to London, red framed "INDIA LETTER/SOUTHAMPTON" handstamp (Robertson In. 2), Madras (Aug. 18), Madras Ship Letter (Aug. 18), London, and "Hertford/23" transit and arrival datestamps, few manuscript rate markings, Very Fine, Kurpah was the original name for Cuddapah, noted as "Rare" by Giles
