Description

1825, June 28. Bangalore - London. Stampless docketed ELS with fine strike of the oval 'Post Paid / Bangalore' in red, large double-ring oval 'OUT STATION / SHIP LETTER / Madras / 1 JY 1 / 1825' in black on reverse with boxed red 'INDIA LETTER / PORTSMOUTH' receiver. On front of ELS is VF striked of the oval 'MADRAS 1 MY 1 1825' in black. London 'A/ 20 DE 20 / 1825 transit in red. Long accounting of monies requested from from the Mission House at Austin Friars and the uncertainty about what bills may be dishonoured by the agents in India. (A not too subtle pressure tactic!). In the lower left corner of the front is a very small 'paid' added beneath the docketing notation, 'Read to the Eastern Committee 8 Jan. 1826.' Great reading, very legible.
