India, Bangalore, 1817, "Post Paid/Bangalore" Oval Handstamp (Giles 2). Clear strike in red with manuscript "15th Sept. 1817" date and "4½f" rate on folded letter from William Garrard to Thomas de Havilland in Madras, accompanying letter regarding a bridge built by Garrard at Muddoor, Madras (Sept. 18, Giles MX1) arrival backstamp, cover with mild vertical file fold thru Bangalore marking, written to de Havilland while he was a supervising engineer
