1838, "Care of Mr. Waghorn, Suez" (Sidebottom 3; Smith 3). Superb strike of oval handstamp with manuscript "1 Rupee" charge on folded letter datelined Calcutta Feb. 12, 1838, to Havre, France, sender's directive "via Bombay & Egypt" and "care of Mr. Waghorn", red boxed Calcutta despatch, Alexandria transit and Havre arrival datestamps, red boxed "INDIA", "Indes Orien par Alexandrie", and red "Paquetbots de la Mediterranee" handstamps, cover with minor edgewear and rather heavy tape stains on backflaps affecting interior pages EXTREMELY FINE. ONE OF THE FINEST STRIKES OF THE TYPE 3 WAGHORN HANDSTAMP, OF WHICH 44 ARE RECORDED BY SMITH. Ex "Delta".
