Postal cover from waghorn (), bearing Unknown handstamp in unknown. Dated 2 May 1839. Scarce example of postal history from this office. Waghorn. 1839 (May 1) Entire letter from Calcutta "By the overland mail" with superb black "Care of / Mr Waghorn / Suez" (signed, with the letter number and 1/- charge), red boxed "INDIA", charged 3/8½. Backstamped red boxed "STEAM POSTAGE (8) / INLAND DO (15) / TOTAL (1-7)" with boxed "BRITISH / FOREIGN" (1/10 British + 1/10½ Foreign) and a London c.d.s. (July 7), a transit time of 67 days.
