MOULMEIN - PACKET LETTER TO G.B. EX "CAMP AT MOULMEIN" WITH FINE RED BOXED "Paid" D.S.; Matching 29 Dec. 1841 EL to the previous lot (this to the mother, the previous lot to the father of the writer) from "Camp at Moulmein" to London "Per Steamer Ganges via Calcutta. Via Falmouth" with a very fine red boxed "MOULMEIN/1841 December 28/Paid [Rp.1]" on the flap (crossed by filing crease) and a fine red oval "INDIA" on the front. The long and interesting contents (typed large part transcript) focus on the voyage from India with "366 men and followers on board... 7 officers, one with his lady and children. Then there were 4 horses on the deck...sheep, goats and poultry... four large covered-in fireplaces for the troops also on the upper deck... Our vessel was 700 tons... rather a tub and her name the 'Larkins', Captain Hibbert..." and descriptions of Burma. Good early letter.Cross Reference: INDIA, MARITIME MAIL
