Sawuntwaree
Sawantwadi (historically Sawuntwaree) is a town in Sindhudurg district, in the Konkan of southern Maharashtra near the Goa border, former capital of a princely state and famed for its lacquered wooden crafts and Ganjifa cards. It lay on the coastal routes between the Konkan and Goa. Administered under the Bombay Presidency, it served as a post town, and its pre-1854 markings record the mail of the southern Konkan.
