Description

Portuguese India 1857 (8 Jan.) native letter from Damaun to Bombay bearing 1854 ½a. blue Die I with margins all round, tied by barred '13' cancel and showing "damaun/Paid" boxed handstamp in violet (Giles 1) with manuscript "8-1-57". Some usual faults including ageing and creasing not detracting from the importance of this very rare cover. Damaun was the only British post office in the Portuguese territories within India. S.G. 2.
