Description
India, Used in Damaun, 1854, ½a Deep Blue, Die I (2a; SG 4). Stone "A", huge to clear margins on each side, tied by barred "13" cancel with watery violet "DAMAUN Paid" boxed datetamp (Giles 1) with manuscript "4-1-59" date on back of petite native cover, cover with some edgewear and stamp with slight overall toning FINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE USE OF THE 1854 HALF-ANNA LITHOGRAPH FROM DIE I FROM DAMAUN -- AN OFFICE IN THE PORTUGUESE INDIA TERRITORY. Damaun was the only British post office in the Portuguese territories within India. Covers from Damaun are rarely encountered.
