Bhownuggur
Bhavnagar, formerly Bhownuggur, is a coastal city in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, founded in 1743 as the seat of a princely state and built around an important Gulf of Khambhat port. It grew wealthy on maritime cotton and trade. Linked to the Bombay Presidency's postal network, it was a busy mail town, and its pre-1854 covers record the sea-and-land posts of the Kathiawar peninsula.
