Beejapore
Bijapur, historically Beejapore and today officially Vijayapura, is a city in northern Karnataka renowned for the monumental architecture of the Adil Shahi sultanate, including the great Gol Gumbaz. A former capital and Deccan stronghold, it passed under British administration within the Bombay Presidency. As a district town it carried inland mail of the Deccan, and its pre-1854 covers document the Company's posts across the Kaladgi country.
