Description
India, Tirhoot, 1836, "TIRHOOT POST PAID/18__" Double-Oval Handstamp (Giles 1). Faint but legible strike with manuscript "(18)36 11 Nove" date and "1 As 2" rate added on back of folded letter to Agra, forwarded to Allahabad, Chunar, Buxar, then Dinapore, red "ALLAHABAD/BEAR/18__" (Giles 3) and "BUXAR/BEARg/18__" (Giles 1) with manuscript "2 Rs" rate and "26 Novr (18)36" date added on back, cover with opening tears on backpanel affecting Allahabad and Buxar markings, cover with overall toning, still Fine strikes, an exceptional combination of markings, very few of the Buxar Bearing markings in particular are known (this is the example used by Giles for the tracing in his book)
