Sooree (Beerbhoom)

Suri (the Sooree of early records) is a city in Birbhum district, West Bengal, of which it is the headquarters, set in the Rarh country west of the Mayurakshi river. It was an administrative and market town of the western plain. Within the Bengal Presidency it served as a district post town, and its pre-1854 markings record the mail of the Birbhum country.
