Bauleah, later called Rampur Boalia, was the headquarters of the Rajsahai District, East Bengal and Assam, situated 24°22' N and 88°36' E, on the north bank of the Padma River. Selected by the Dutch early in the 18th century for a factory, and later became an English Commercial Residency in the centre of an important silk industry.

Bauleah— postal history & markings
Bauleah — later Rampur Boalia, headquarters of the Rajshahi District on the Padma — leaves six handstamps from 1825 to 1853, worked mainly in black. HG 2 and the red HG 3 are scarce, and HG 5 carries a spelling variety, struck with an extra 'E'. Selected by the Dutch early in the eighteenth century, the town later served as a British district headquarters in East Bengal. Its post is a compact record of a riverine administrative centre, and the extra-E spelling is the small detail a collector uses to separate its strikes.
