Poorooleah

Purulia (the Poorooleah of early records) is a city in the far west of West Bengal in the Chota Nagpur borderland, a district town among the rocky uplands and the Kansai river country. It was a route town between Bengal and the Jharkhand plateau. Within the Bengal Presidency it served as a post town, and its pre-1854 markings record the mail of the western hill country.
