Description

India, Moongyr, 1823, "Post/Moongyr/Paid" Negative Intaglio Handstamp (Giles 1). Complete and mostly legible strike with manuscript "Pt Pd 12 ans, 1st March 1823" on back of folded letter datelined Feb. 23, 1823, addressed to Edinburgh, Scotland, framed "INDIA LETTER/ISLE OF WIGHT" (Robertson In. 1) and framed "1/2" handstamps, two Calcutta (one Mar. 7, Giles G5) and London transit and Edinburgh arrival datestamps, manuscript rate markings indicating double rate, small flaw to front panel and slight flap wear causing some blemishes to the Moongyr handstamp, still Very Fine and noted as "scarce" by Giles
