Ghattaul

Ghatal (the Ghattaul of early records) is a town in Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, on the Shilabati river in a low-lying tract often flooded in the rains. It was a river-trade and market town of the Medinipur plain. As a post town of the Bengal Presidency its pre-1854 markings record the mail of the western Bengal lowland.
