Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar (recorded under the same name) is a city in northern West Bengal on the Torsa river, the former capital of the Koch kingdom and a princely state under British paramountcy. Its palace and planned streets made it a courtly town at the foot of the eastern Himalaya. Within the Bengal Presidency it was a post town, and its pre-1854 markings trace the mail of the northern Bengal frontier.
