1824: H.G.1 1: CHANDERNAGORE, situated on the bank of Hooghly river about 22 miles from Calcutta. It was first occupied by French in 1688. It changed hands to East India Company twice before it was finally returned to the French in 1816. Letter posted from CHANDERNAGORE to HURRAH [HOWRAHI& postage paid was 13 dam.
