Description

India, Calcutta, 1795/1814, "G.P.O./(Month)/PtPd" Oval Handstamps (Giles 10-10a). Strikes of each type which were in used concurrently to each other but differentiated by the horizontal separating lines, Giles 10 1795 folded letter from Calcutta with "JULY" and manuscript "10" date and "1" (anna) rate added, addressed to Chandernagore, French Settlement, Giles 10a 1814 folded letter from Calcutta with "MAR" and manuscript "9" date and "14" (anna) rate added, addressed to Kedgeree, the latter cover sealed, Very Fine pair, the Giles 10 a particularly choice strike
