India: 1843 (June 25) envelope to Calcutta with framed “BEAULEAH/[DATE]”, framed “AM” and framed “G.P.O/[Date]” marks on reverse. To Sir Thomas Herbert Maddock and with content by William Stanley Clarke [1768-1844] (Director of the East India Company) “Presuming you will be now satisfactorily located as a member of the Supreme Council at Calcutta. I venture to make my young friend Mr Leonard Parish (a son of Sir Woodbine Parish 1796-1882) the bearer of this note…..who proceeds to your Residency as an Artillery Cadet after having passed the ordeal at Addiscombe….You will see….the state of excitement which prevails just now in Ireland under the malign influence of [Daniel] O’Connell [1775-1847]……Governor-General [of India, Earl of Auckland, 1784-1849] is now resident at Kensington Gore…..he fortunately steered clear of the Afghan War, he would have deservedly ranked as the best Governor General India could boast!”.
