Description

Penang Early Letters and Handstamps 1826 (18 Oct.) entire to Aberdeen, rated "1/3" and "4/2", showing very fine circular intaglio "prince of wales island/post office" in red (Type P.S. 4) with manuscript date inserted, boxed " 1/2" and, on reverse across join, framed "india letter/gravesend" overstruck by red arrival datestamp (17.3); the entire rather worn at edges, nevertheless a very early date for this handstamp, the earliest recorded being 9th September.
