Description

Penang Early Letters and Handstamps 1821 entire addressed to "Lt. F. Mackinnon, 18th Madras Native Infantry, Seringapatam" and redirected to Canannor, showing a good to fine strike of the oval intaglio "post/office/pwi" h.s. in red (Type P.S.3) along with framed "Post not Paid" and, on reverse, Madras transit c.d.s. (25.5). A fine example of this extremely rare handstruck marking of which only one other earlier example on cover is recorded. Photo Estimate S$ 25,000-30,000 provenance: Spink sale, June 2000
