Description

India, Mooltan, 1851, "MOOLTAN/1851 DEC ?/WEIGHT TOLA/PAID" Framed Datestamp (Giles Unrecorded). Clear strike in red with manuscript "6 as" rate added on back of folded letter datelined "Mooltan 22nd Dec. 1851", addressed to Madeira "via London" , sender's directive "Per Overland Mail via Marseilles" , red "INDIA" oval handstamp, two different "Returned for Postage" and framed "No. __/Detained for Postage" handstamps, Bombay (Jan. 2) and London (Feb. 1) transit datestamps, few manuscript rate markings ending with "3/8" and "160" (reis) rate handstamp, Very Fine and well-travelled cover, this strike is very similar to Giles No. 1 except that is for "Bearing" versus the "Paid" in the handstamp offered here
