Description
1850 Lahore – Paris, later to Beaugency via Marseilles route, with Giles G1 "LAHORE/184x NOV. 13/PAID" hand stamp & "INDIA/PAID" (similar to Bombay Giles SD8) mark, rate "1–6" (paid 1R6A, comprising 14A inland postage to Bombay for a letter between ¼ & 1 tolah & 8A steam postage up to Alexandria). From Bombay sent to Suez by EIC regular steamer FEROZE, then travelled overland to Alexandria & reached Marseilles via H.M.'s packet MEDUSA on 29th Dec., where French transit mark applied. Reached Paris on 31st Dec., and 19 decimes (comprising 10 decimes packet postage + 9 decimes French inland postage) bearing charge applied. The letter was redirected and sent to Beaugency, for which an additional 10 decimes Paris–Beaugency inland bearing postage was applied, and was delivered there on 1st January 1851. Total 29 decimes (19 + 10) French bearing postage was collected from the recipient.
