The Jullunder HG 3 handstamp
Jullunder is 1180 miles from Calcutta, 1247 from Bombay and 916 from Karachi, in the Punjab, situated 31°20' N and 75°35' E on the Grand Trunk Road. Ranjit Singh annexed it in 1811, and in 1846 it became the headquarters of the territ<;>ry acquired by the E.1. Company after the first Sikh War. A cantonment was established that year 4 miles south east of the town.
