Description
1846 : H.G.1 : It was a Military station in the 19th century, 84 miles North-West of Lucknow. It featured in the 1857 uprising where a number of Europeans lost their lives in the Church. This small letter, weighing under 1/4 tola, was stamped with the "SHAHAJAHANPORE / Paid" despatch mark, single postage of 5 annas to DUMDUM-D.D.P.O.:

This 9 July 1846 pre stamp cover of British India bears the Shahjahanpore HG 1 handstamp of the North Western Provinces, a mark graded “Common” in this census — the only surviving cover with this mark recorded so far.
