The Seepree HG 1 handstamp
Seepree (Sipri) is the headquarters of the Nawar district of Gwalior State, 1315 feet above sea level, situated 25°26' N and 77°39' E. Held by the Narwar chief until 1804, when Sindhia seized it, but it passed into British hands in 1817 under the Treaty of Poona, but was restored to Sindhia in 1818. It was occupied as a cantonment in 1835.
Seepree HG 1 is a pre-1854 handstruck postal marking of the post office at Seepree — the present-day Shivpuri — in the North Western Provinces, British India, in recorded use from 1842 to 1844.
