Sikar (the Seekur of early records) is a city in the Shekhawati region of northern Rajasthan, a walled merchant town below a fort, famed for its painted havelis on the caravan routes to the Ganges plain. It was a leading trade town of the Shekhawati tract. In the era of the Company's northern posts it served as a mail town, and its pre-1854 markings trace the posts of the Shekhawati country.
