Description
Rewah: 1836 (10 Dec.) entire letter headed "Camp Rewah" to Mrs A. Van Dunlop from her brother (Wm. Ferguson?) with manuscript "Post Paid 6as" and showing a good strike of the "REWAH/POST PAID" with rate in manuscript (HG 1). A rare item with a long interesting letter. Extracts from letter: "Thus far we have progressed without any casualties... the Thug community are less troublesome than anticipated... except during Feeding Hours... unfortunately I cannot prevail upon my Commandant to permit the infliction of sound castisement upon the most noisy characters...", he then goes on to denigrate the local Rajahs and their factotums.
